DAYTON RODEO QUEENS

Dayton Rodeo Queen History

The Dayton Rodeo queens are chosen by the Wranglers Saddle Club. The junior queen must be eleven to sixteen years old and her parents should be members of the club. The Senior queen must, herself, be a member and have shown enthusiasm for the clubs events. Both queens must own a horse. Queens are nominated and then by secret ballot elected as junior and senior queen.

In years past the queens had to prove their horsemanship before 3 unbiased judges. It was required they put their horse through a pleasure horse type test at the ring masters command. They had to be able to mount and dismount gracefully. The judges then chose the queens. The chosen queens were crowned at the Memorial Day horse show by the queen of the past year. Her duties then begin and carry on through Labor Day.

Current duties of the queens are to lead in all area parades; be active participants in Wranglers Saddle Club activities, the July URA/IRCA rodeo, ride in the Grand Entry of the Labor Day Pro Rodeo performances, herd the roping calves back to their pen during the rodeo and participate in the Rodeo Kids Corral event before each rodeo performance - Make sure to wave to these ladies during the upcoming parades throughout the summer.

2022 Dayton Wrangler Senior Rodeo Queen -  Hailey Tuel

Hey rodeo fans! My name is Hailey Tuel and I’m 21 years old. I was born and raised in Lehigh, Iowa, but I now live in Mercer, Missouri. I’m currently a junior at Graceland University, where I study Art and compete on their rodeo team in the barrel racing. Most of the time you’ll see me on my horse Copper. He’s the sweetest big bay horse who is a sucker for potato chips! I was riding horses before I could walk and I’ve been very blessed throughout the years riding some amazing horses and meeting so many great people.

Outside of school and the rodeo world I enjoy baking, hunting, and traveling. I try to keep a pretty busy lifestyle! I would like to thank the Dayton Wranglers for giving me this opportunity. I’ve been involved in this saddle club for quite a few years while being a serpentine rider, 2017 Jr. Queen, and the current Youth Serpentine Team coach. Growing up attending the Dayton Rodeo it means so much to me to help out and to be involved to make our PRCA a fantastic and memorable show. I hope you enjoy the rodeo as much as I do, see you on the hill!!!

With lots of love, Miss Senior Dayton Rodeo

2022 Dayton Junior Rodeo Queen - Payton Gafford

Hello my name is Payton Gafford and I am the 2022 Dayton Wrangler Junior Queen.  I am the daughter of Andrew and Traci Gafford.  I am involved in 4-H and FFA. I also am a varsity cheerleader at my high school football and wrestling.  I enjoy spending time with my horses at rodeos and trailriding and spending time with family and friends.

My goals in rodeo are to become a better barrel racer and roper, and also start my own horse breeding stable. I love helping others along the way. I want to say thank you to everyone, and horse who has gotten me to where I am. Thank you to the Dayton Wranglers for the great experience.
