DAYTON RODEO QUEENS

The Dayton Rodeo queens are chosen by the Wranglers Saddle Club. The junior queen must be eleven to sixteen years old and her parents should be members of the club. The Senior queen must, herself, be a member and have shown enthusiasm for the clubs events. Both queens must own a horse. Queens are nominated and then by secret ballot elected as junior and senior queen.

In years past the queens had to prove their horsemanship before 3 unbiased judges. It was required they put their horse through a pleasure horse type test at the ring masters command. They had to be able to mount and dismount gracefully. The judges then chose the queens. The chosen queens were crowned at the Memorial Day horse show by the queen of the past year. Her duties then begin and carry on through Labor Day.

Current duties of the queens are to lead in all area parades; be active participants in Wranglers Saddle Club activities, the July URA/IRCA rodeo, ride in the Grand Entry of the Labor Day Pro Rodeo performances, herd the roping calves back to their pen during the rodeo and participate in the Rodeo Kids Corral event before each rodeo performance - Make sure to wave to these ladies during the upcoming parades throughout the summer.

2019 Dayton Senior Rodeo Queen -  Katara Jondle

Katara Rose Jondle is the 18 year old daughter of mother Beverly Jondle and step-father Robbin Dorman.

Katara lives in Dayton, Iowa, but is currently attending Buena Vista University in Storm Lake to run track, participation band, and major in Music Education while also obtaining her coaching endorsement and photography minor.

Throughout Katara’s childhood she carried flags and participated in Youth Serpentine for various rodeos in the Dayton arena. She also recalls being excited to meet the rodeo queens every year and dreamed of one day becoming one of the rodeo queens at the Dayton Championship Rodeo.

Katara wants others to know that when you believe in yourself anything is possible and you will be unstoppable.
